Two women, one spark, one shared conviction: art should move people. Not only by invitation of elite circles, but in the middle of ordinary life. With FRIDAY BIRD, Nicola E. Petek and Nora Vogel have founded a gallery that is more than a platform for printmaking — it is a manifesto for beauty, craftsmanship, and accessibility.

"Pandemic Symphony" by Julian Felix Kirchner
The two founders met while studying art history in Freiburg, after which their professional paths diverged. Nicola went on to curate international exhibitions; Nora managed communications and content for well-known companies. What remained, across the distance and the years, was their shared passion for the quiet tones of art. In 2024, they took the step together. FRIDAY BIRD was born.
At the heart of the project are handcrafted original prints in small editions — each work a unique piece that convinces not only through its aesthetic but through its authenticity and poetic expression. "Our editions are handcrafted original prints in limited runs — authentic, high quality, and curated with great attention to detail," say Petek and Vogel. The works are created in close collaboration with artists and printers, every step carried out by hand. "Every stage in the making of a lithograph, an etching, or any other printmaking technique happens manually. Each work is therefore an original — not a mechanically produced copy, but a sheet with its own history." It is a commitment to care, to artistry, and to the soul of the work.

'The Imprint of Humility' by Dennis Scholl
FRIDAY BIRD is a homage to the enduring. Not fleeting decoration, but artworks made to accompany a life — across decades, across rooms, across change. For the duo, sustainability means above all longevity and meaningfulness: in the selection of works, in the materials, in the packaging. "Our works are not short-lived products — they are made for a whole lifetime." A definition of sustainability that is entirely their own, and entirely artistic.
And the name? A charming fusion of their surnames. "Petek" means Friday in Slovenian; "Vogel," of course, means bird. From Friday and Bird came a name with genuine character — accessible, international, and easy to remember. The kind of name, it turns out, that suits a gallery built on exactly those principles.
The editions are available through FRIDAY BIRD's online shop, while a showroom in Berlin-Tiergarten invites visitors to experience the works in person. The vision is clear: a gallery that demonstrates how vivid and relevant printmaking can be — for connoisseurs and first-time collectors alike. At the centre of it all, always, is art that has soul.
